Writing is like being able to put life into a snow globe. It takes the things that are too big and scary and reduces them into a form that I can put away when I want and look at from a distance. It also takes all that’s good in life and captures it into something I can take out when I want and look at close up and keep forever. It makes the bad things into something I can hold…and the good things into something I can hold onto. Both help so much that I need that little souvenir of life.

Book Blurb Friday #17

I was excited about Book Blurb Friday, so I’m posting a wee bit early.  For this meme from Writing in the Buff, Lisa Ricard Claro posts a picture of a fictional book cover.  The challenge is to come up with an accompanying blurb of 150 words or fewer.  I loved this week’s picture the second I saw it.  Yes, it was like a big old carrot dangling in front of me, and yes, I obediently followed…with 122 words.

And welcome to Susan! Susan, I’d love to see your blog but can’t find it. Am I that technologically challenged? Definitely.

~The Sort of New Adventures of Really, Really Old Christine~
By Steve King

The last time Christine fixed her own dents and chugged her way out of the junkyard, she realized her fenders just couldn’t take much more.  Could it be true?  It was.  Killing young boys just wasn’t as much fun as it used to be. It was time to drive herself down to Boca.  Maybe buy a little garage and play some Mahjong with some Cadillac Coupe de Villes.

Relax with Steve King’s less scary sequel focusing on Christine’s retirement years, during which her radio plays e-z listening tunes such as:

I Lost My Grille Climbing Blueberry Hill
Highway to Purgatory
Tow Truck to Heaven
Ain’t Killin’ Nothin’ But a Few Hound Dogs
Baby Got Trunk
Come On Baby, Rub My Tires

Liz Lemon from 30 Rock, about a romantic weekend she’s planning: “I’m taking underwear that isn’t gray!”

  1. "Come On Baby, Rub My Tires" is TOO TOO funny, Tammy. In fact, all the song titles are. Maximum effect with 122 words.

  2. What about 'Pull up to the bumper' or ... oh dear I can see this could be addictive.
But what a wonderful take on the picture.

  3. It's worth repeating: YOU'RE SO GOOD AT THIS!

By the way, I don't think underwear comes in any other color besides gray.

  4. Tammy--I hate to try and write a BBF this week after reading yours. Too much wine and Nutella for you, obviously!

I also love your quote. However, if I wear a dingy gray bra with the gray panties, isn't a matching set? (And the matching sets are always cute!)

  5. This was fun! I imagine an old Caddy convertible, you know, the bald guy, spewing steam when he loses at Mahjong!

  6. LOL This is one of those that gives and then just keeps on giving. I'll be giggling all day every time I think about this. You're great at this! What a creative and twisty take on the pic. So, so good! Those song titles are killing me. :)

  7. This is so funny. Most original - and, best of all, nothing to do with spiders:-)

  8. Oh my goodness, Tammy...you had me just choking with laughter at those song titles! The whole idea is brilliant...Stephen King is decidely long in the tooth now...he may be planning this very sequel...LOL! And that clever take on the title...I'm blown away by it all!!! You've raised the bar for all of us today....:)

  10. Sorry...too many mistakes, so I deleted it. I love the fact that you used Christine...the car and the tv sitcom. But you know, with the first of King's novels, it was an edge of the seat thriller...yours on the other hand, would probably be more a roflmao SNL sequel.

  11. I couldn't stop laughing! The song titles alone were worth the read :0

  12. Just too funny. Love your sense of humor.

  13. Hi Tammy

    What a hoot!

Loved the tongue in cheek take on this and those song titles are wonderful. My mind is going to be punning all day!

  14. ROFL, "Lost my grille climbing blueberry hill!" This one made me spit coffee. :)

Sorry I'm late, I have this weird thing called work until August but I'll be around. Might be late but around. :)

  15. Ain’t Killin’ Nothin’ But a Few Hound Dogs

So not true! I nearly died laughing.

    A winning blurb for sure.
