Writing is like being able to put life into a snow globe. It takes the things that are too big and scary and reduces them into a form that I can put away when I want and look at from a distance. It also takes all that’s good in life and captures it into something I can take out when I want and look at close up and keep forever. It makes the bad things into something I can hold…and the good things into something I can hold onto. Both help so much that I need that little souvenir of life.

Succinctly Yours Week 239: Too Pretty to be Silly

Thank you to Grandma of Grandma’s Goulash for hosting Succinctly Yours. Participants are invited to write a story of 140 words or 140 characters or fewer based on the photo. This week’s bonus word is “evaporate.”

Beneath the amber autumn canopy, the elixir of leaf-spiced dew evaporated all tenseness, all toil…all time.   92

Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place. ~Iain Thomas, often mistakenly attributed to Kurt Vonnegut

  2. Tammy--This is way too gorgeous to just live here on this post. It should be the first line of a short story, or part of a poem.

    1. That's very kind of you to say, Sioux! I wouldn't know where to go from there, though. That bicycle might be stationary. ;)

    1. Thanks. Isn't that a great quote? I originally saw Kurt Vonnegut on there, though, and thought...REALLY? Just didn't sound right. So looked it up and found out others before me have been equally perplexed. So hope I cited the right person.

  7. Oh my gosh, this is so beautiful, so lyrical, such a perfect rendering of autumn. It just melted right into my heart. And the quote... oh how I love it. So sorry I'm late in coming to this post, Tammy, but reading it now was truly the highlight of my day. What talent you have, dear friend.
