Writing is like being able to put life into a snow globe. It takes the things that are too big and scary and reduces them into a form that I can put away when I want and look at from a distance. It also takes all that’s good in life and captures it into something I can take out when I want and look at close up and keep forever. It makes the bad things into something I can hold…and the good things into something I can hold onto. Both help so much that I need that little souvenir of life.

Succinctly Yours #156: Not So Bright Idea

Once again it's time for SuccinctlyYours at Grandma's Goulash. The goal is to use the picture and bonus word to come up with a caption of 140 characters or 140 words. Mine this week is 137 characters, and the bonus word is loathe.

To fair goers, nothing seems more manly than a mud derby. But to those manliest of menfirefighters who loathe cleaning up—it's nothing but a dirty car trick.

Oh I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay
I sleep all night and I work all day
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch,
I go to the lava-try....
~Monty Python, The Lumberjack Song

  1. Tammy--Your Monty Python ditty at the end reminded me of a lumberjack competition I went to at Madison, Wisconsin. It was an incredible event.

Your caption came from a unique perspective, as usual...

  5. Maybe they stand under an outdoor shower with all their gear on after such an episode at the mud track.

  7. Hi Tammy ~~ I really like the 'mud derby' idea. Is there such a thing?
I know that on dirt tracks they water down so very much to help with
having less dust later. I would like to see a mud derby.

  8. Jim, my first caption joked about a new invention that combined demolition derby and mud wrestling. Then I got to thinking that, with some people, such and invention wouldn't be too far fetched. So I performed complex research via Google. Long story short? Yep. Sigh.

  9. You're a terrific micro fiction writer. Love them. When things settle down a bit, I may attempt. Give me something to post on a regular basis and sharpen the ole writing skills.
