Proverb for our times: Youth,
though precious, should never be worshipped.
It’s not an accomplishment, is known for its disadvantages, and is
guaranteed not to last.
I tried to run up the stairs, but I discovered you can’t do it in a
skirt. Also, hair itches. ~Teenaged boy wearing a poofy red pageboy with a pink
sequined skirt for a Homecoming event
Tammy--What is it about black and white photos of kids and a certain era (or at least I'm imagining it's a certain era) that bring back a flood of memories.
ReplyDeleteYour caption was perfect. We DO tend to worship our childhood, even though it's not something we "achieve" and looking back on "the good ol' days, we did some really stupid things.
Some of us did LOTS of stupid things. But--oh--how right you are about those black and white photos!
DeleteCongrats on your contribution, "The End of an Era." I'll have to read it because to me it sounds interesting but I couldn't guess. Well, ... "The end of youth?" I definitely know it will not last. (Beatle song, "Come and get it.")

Come And Get It

Lead Vocal: Paul McCartney
"If you want it, here it is
Come and get it m-m-m!
Make your mind up fast
If you want it anytime I can give it
But you better hurry 'cause it may not last
Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?
Will you walk away from a fool and his money?
If you want it, here it is
Come and get it
But you better hurry 'cause it's going fast
If you want it, here it is
Come and get it
Make your mind up fast

Thanks, Pat!
DeleteExcellent pithy proverb!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteAlas, youth does not last. Besides, youth is wasted on the young.
ReplyDeleteHow true. I even thought about using that quote, but it seemed like cheating. Plus I don't know who said it!
DeleteYouth, it lasts too long if you ask me. Oh wait, that's the teen years. I blogged about a "skirt" issue on my blog. Some things are eye openers.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I know eighth grade lasted forever. Bleah.
DeleteYou are the Queen of these short pieces, just like Ms. Linda is the Queen Chick of Soup.
ReplyDeleteYou're very sweet, Lynn--thank you!
DeleteThoughtful micro to go with the photo. I actually wouldn't give up my hard-earned maturity even if I could, although sometimes I think it would be nice to have my 20-year-old body back again. :)
